I successfully completed the training in May 2005 and began full time service. My role as a Police Officer is a diverse and demanding role including supporting the community, responding to incidents, dealing with crime, patrolling, dealing with the public and dealing with difficult and sometimes dangerous situations. Within the role I have achieved many skills including Effective communication, personal responsibility, resilience, problem solving, respect for diversity, team working and much more. I daily use administration and IT skills to process prisoners, form crime and intelligence reports, prepare charges and files for court and write and take detailed statements. As well as this I manage my own personal development as well as supporting colleagues.
At the beginning of 2007 I attained a post in an investigative role under CID supervision in which I carried out detailed investigation of many crimes, this role relied upon my personal communication skills as well as management of my time and workload on a daily basis, ensuring that court deadlines were met and related personnel were kept informed. In May 2007 I then went on to work in a response position at a district level. This involved being the first to attend immediate response incidents and deal with initial reports of crime, public order situations, sudden deaths, conflict resolution and much more. This is a highly fluid role that requires a good degree of logical thinking, quick decision making and positive, appropriate action taking as just some of the skills needed.
